Do you guys think it would be better to 'waste' one's vote on a constitution party candidate, or libertarian, or an Alan Keyes?
On the one hand, I don't like much about W anymore. But on the other, knowing what our dem. governer here in Iowa has been pushing, I think a guy like W is far better than a guy like Gov. Vilsack (who, by the way, is gearing up a run at the presidency).
Maybe I just shouldn't vote. Then my conscience wouldn't bother me at all.
Politics is mostly about compromise. You pinch your nose and vote.
I say you should do your very best to vote on the person you like the best in your primary or caucus. Do not let others sway you. I wish I would not have voted for W in the primary (though was McCain really that much better).
One thing I have resolved to do is not let my vote be swayed at all by anyone's pseudo-profession of evangelicalism or any other religion. I want a conservative, not a person who uses his religion to get votes. I may blog on this idea sometime in the future.
I specifically remember the night that Clinton won the second time. My dad was so outraged at himself that he voted on principle and wasted his vote. He vowed never to do that again, to vote for the guy that had a chance. That had left a strong impression on me.
Anymore, I'm not sure I care enough about it all to NOT vote for the best candidate.
I like to keep things balanced by voting for a flaming liberal one time and then trying to find a conservative the next time . . . that's why I'm mad at Bush.
Look at the 2 previous candidates that ran against W in the last 2 elections. Please tell me the last 2 would be better than the current administration? Not likely!
Lest we forget, most "decisions" are made at the Supreme Court level (i.e. Roe v. Wade, Separation of Church and State [whatever that means]). It's the court system that concerns me the most. If we had either of those 2 previous candidates that ran against W in the White House, would we have Roberts and Alito on the bench, or would we have someone like Bater-Ginsburg and some other liberal minded judge on the bench?
I would like to think W is morally conservative who wants judges on the bench that are morally conservative, and do not use their power to "legislate from the bench" as others have done so many times in the past.
Unfortunately, many people think by casting their vote, they can somehow overturn a bad precident. THAT is where voting for W makes it all the worth while!
BTW, I can't WAIT to see South Dakota's bill banning abortions make it to this Supreme Court! THAT will be the determining factor in W's conservatism or not, by his nominations to the Supreme Court!
I liked what Doug said. In no way is G. W. Bush a political conservative. His big government ideas drive me nuts, but he is definitely socially or morally conservative and that has helped him make some good supreme court nominations. I guess we should be relieved we got one of the two.

How can he be a conservative when he denies that our culture is in decline?
Sad. I'm voting for Kerry next time.
It is not like you'll get the chance to vote for W again.
Well . . . if I could I WOULDN'T!!

The best thing about W has been his supreme court appointees.
Why couldn't we get Carl F. H. Henry for president, you know?
